Monitor symptoms

Recovery is different for every child, and it is not always a straight path. Sometimes symptoms can go away for a few days and then reappear. Other times symptoms might not even show up for a day or two. It is important for you to closely monitor your child’s physical, mental, and emotional symptoms.

Symptoms can be subtle. Trust what you know about your child.

  • Are symptoms present?
  • Do they worsen with activity?
  • Is your child more emotional than before the injury? For example, does your child cry for no reason?
  • Are you noticing any new symptoms? For example, are you observing problems with sleeping, concentration, or other symptoms that weren’t previously there?

If the answer to any of these is “yes,” inform your child’s Concussion Management Team and healthcare provider. Never let your child return to activity with symptoms.
